Why should you activate blue light filter on Android?

 What is a blue light filter and why do you need it? Phones became a very important part of our lives. We basically always have a screen in our pocket, ready to show us the newest information from all over the world. The problem is, we use them far too often at night, right before going to sleep. Our modern lifestyle means always staring at screens - TV, PC, tablets, phones etc. Blue light has a negative impact on our sleep patterns, disturbing the production of melatonin, a very important sleep hormone. By reducing your exposure to blue light, you can quickly fix how tired you feel and sleep way better.

Activating a blue light filter/night mode on your Android phone

Seeing how important this mode was for their users, Google decided to integrate a number of blue light filters into Android, starting with Android Oreo. As long as your phone uses a reasonably new software, you should have an option of enabling a night mode option to filter blue light.

  1. If your phone uses a fairly new software, simply unlock your phone and open the Settings menu.
  2. Select the Display option and search for a Blue Light Filter option. They can use one of many names - Night Mode, Night Light, Reading Mode and such. All of these basically do the same, making your phone's colors warmer once you turn it on.
  3. You can either choose an option for this mode to start when the sun sets (it can be named something like Goodnight or Reading Before Sleep mode) or schedule when should it start by yourself.
  4. Once you're done, that's it! Your phone will now change the displayed colors to warmer ones once the Blue Light Filter is applied!

Factory Reset your device

Activating Night Shift mode on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch

Starting with iPhone 5S, Apple also added a blue light filter option into iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices. It works the same way as the Android one, using your geological and time location to determine when the sun sets near you, so as to add a blue light filter onto the screen.

First Method:

  1. From the upper right part of your device's screen, swipe down to open the Control Center.
  2. Firmly press the Brightness icon and tap the sun/moon symbol to turn Night Shift on or off.

Second Method:

  1. Unlock and go to your device's Settings menu.
  2. Select the Display & Brightness menu.
  3. There, pick Night Shift.
  4. You can schedule at what times will the blue light filter start and if the colors should be adjusted automatically or adjust them yourself.

Master Reset your device

 And that's it! Your phone will put a blue light filter over your display every day, when the sun sets! This way, with warmer colors, your eyes won't be as strained, and you'll sleep much better!
