Review Leagoo M5 Plus

Yet another promising budget device from Leagoo. Some may call it a phablet, for us it is an interesting proposition which is definitely worth checking out. Want to know our thoughts about it? Keep on reading!

PARAMETERS

At first, some information about the design and the technical side of the device. It is 151.7 mm long, 76.2 mm wide and 8.8 mm thick - which is definitely bigger than an average mobile phone produced in 2016 (bigger than its younger brother - Leagoo M5). What comes with being so big is being so heavy and there is no exception here. League M5 Plus weighs 208 grams which is a lot for a smartphone (that is the weight of some of the tablets). Despite the heaviness, it is a very slim device which can be used in one hand but takes a while to get used to that. For us it was not a problems - we may however imagine that for people with smaller hands it can actually be quite a challenge. This device comes in three colors: titanium grey, champagne gold (that is the one that we have) and galaxy white. It has three buttons on the right side of the device and there is a fingerprint sensor in the back (just below the camera). At the bottom of the screen you have three buttons - Home, Menu, Return.

SCREEN

The Leagoo M5 Plus comes with a 5.5 inch screen with the resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The density per square ich of the screen is 267 PPI which quite normal compared to the Leagoo M5 which has the same resolution but smaller screen. This device is packed with a 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 4.0 which protects the screen from any scratches and gives the device silky smooth touch feeling. It is very unusual for a budget smartphone to be shockproof - but this actually is! Good job, Leagoo!

CAMERA

We wanted the improvement in Leagoo M5 and we got it -  Leagoo M5 Plus is equipped with 13 MP rear camera which takes very decent pictures and shoots ok videos. It still is not the ideal camera but for such an inexpensive mobile device - it really is more than we could ask for.  Some of the features include: Geotagging, Autofocus, HDR, Face Beauty, Panorama Mode, Slow Motion Video, FHD Recording (1080p), 30 Frames per second. The front camera is 5 MP which is very satisfactory and quite average for a 2016 smartphone

HARDWARE & SOFTWARE

Leagoo M5 Plus works on the Freeme OS 6.0 (based on Google Android 6.0 Marshmallow) although it doesn't look very much like Android device. The processor is MediaTek MT6737 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz (which is normal for a clock speed). There is a 2GB RAM system memory which is sufficient enough for any kinds of actions performed on a mobile device (from texting to playing games). This is something what could be a little improved. For the money you pay for this device - the RAM is awesome. The internal storage is 16 GB which could be extended up to 32 GB using a micro SD card.

BATTERY LIFE

This device comes with 2500 mAh battery. We would say this is another downside of the Leagoo M5 Plus. When you have a mobile device with 5.5 inch screen and 2 GB RAM it is isn't enough especially if you consider this device as a phablet. If you're not doing anything too power-consuming, it should last you 12 hours. However, when playing games or surfing the Internet, we recommend carrying a charger or a powerbank with you (you can also check out our tips for saving your battery published in the Tips&Tricks section). Once again, not bad for this price, but technically who likes to charge their device a couple of times a day? It is sort of an improvement from the Leagoo M5 - there the battery was 2300 mAh but the device was smaller.

CONNECTIVITY

This however is a real and big improvement - the LTE! Thankfully, the Leagoo M5 Plus comes with a newer processor that actually supports LTE connection. We are very glad to see that. The other networks which are supported are 2G and 3G The WIFI and the new generation Bluetooth work great.

PACKAGING

The device comes in a plain but very esthetic black box. We can find here a full equipment inside. We are very impressed to see the following accessories:

FEATURES

A nice extra feature is the of course the fingerprint sensor in the back. The company’s whole idea for promoting this device is “Fingerprints for all”. It is a great addition which allows you to quickly (less than 2 seconds) unlock your device by just pressing your finger against this sensor. It is ultra fast and 360 degrees. We must say that it works actually very well and we are surprised how fast you are able to unlock your mobile phone, take pictures, home scroll, fingerprint dial, control music and videos. However, we didn't find it very comfortable to hold the device in one hand and touch the sensor with one finger. However it is something you can easily get used to and it really is a great features for a budget smartphone.

SUMMARY

We are actually very surprised with how much we like this device! Sure, it has a few flaws and of course the parameters could be better but we have to remember that this Leagoo M5 Plus costs less than $100! For so little money, we get so much. We recommend it to anyone who wishes to have a bigger smartphone (phablet) and does not want to spend a lot of money on it.
