A change for a new smartphone

It is necessary to transfer all data from the old mobile onto a new one if you want to enjoy the comfort of using your new purchase. Many built-in mechanisms and external apps allow for and facilitate such a migration. We mainly  see our smartphone as data storage and only then as a device. And it is not only about files such as images, music and documents. The real identity of the user is reflected in the apps they have downloaded, the looks of their desktop, saved text messages, contacts,  e-mail, playlists, etc. They all make a smartphone the most personal electronic gadget. What to use

There is no device that could transfer all data and settings from one mobile onto another like one-to-one copy. If you want to „duplicate” the old device in the most accurate way, you need to use the combination of system services and apps. The easiest way is to transfer the data that you keep in the cloud. They are not only basic files but also your e-mail, calendar, contact list and documents. Majority of them is synchronised with online servers thanks to apps. On the other hand, some data is extremely difficult to transfer. The best example here would be the internal files of the app such as stats of saved games or data about a programme configuration. To transfer them, one needs to use a specialist tool.

The change of the SIM card size

It may turn out that your new smartphone needs a SIM card in a size that is different from the previous one. SIM cards are available in 3 sizes (starting from the largest size): mini, micro and nano. Although most of mini SIM cards (apart from the oldest ones with a bigger chip) can be adjusted to the micro size with the use of pair of scissors, getting a nano-sized SIM card in practically impossible without the risk of damaging the card. The best and the safest way is to visit your operator ad ask for a SIM card replacement. Depending on the network and your monthly pay, the replacement is either free of charge or some small fee. The activation process takes about an hour. SimCard size

Changing the SD card

Since mobile memory is limited, some data is stored on the memory card. Sometimes these are not only files but also app data. If the card is running out of space, replace it with a more spacious one. You will transfer all data from the old card using your computer.  Insert the old card into the reader and copy all content into one catalogue.  Before you proceed to this step, make sure the system shows hidden files and libraries. Using the Start menu, open Folder Options and mark Show all hidden files, folders and discs in the View tab. Click OK. Place a new card in the reader and format it in the same file system as the previous one. Next, copy the content of the catalogue (only the content, not the catalogue itself) onto the new card. You may now place the new card into your mobile. If the device does not see the files, try restarting your mobile. MicroSD

Transferring data using producers’ apps

There are many types of data that can be transferred from one mobile onto another using tools prepared by the manufacturer of the device. Not every brand offers such programmes and some mobiles do not even have it in their default apps (you need to download it from the Play Store or from the manufacturer’s website). Transferring programmes are not only for transferring data between the devices of the same manufacturer. You may import files from devices of a different brand, even from mobiles using a different operating system. The range of copied data will be different in every case.
Applications themselves also transfer various data. Xiaomi smartphones leave their competitors behind. They can even transfer internal application data like saved games results. A Sony device has such a function as well. Data transfer takes place using the cloud – this is how the Samsung app works. However, it requires setting up an account in the producer’s network service. The LG software does not need the network connection. You may copy your data onto an SD card on a pendrive OTG (On the Go), meaning when being connected directly to the USB mobile port. Transferring data using WI-FI is another alternative offered by most programmes. Pairing takes place thanks to scanning the QR code (Xiaomi) or using NFC (Sony).

Data synch using Google services

If you are the user of Google apps which are default for Android, then all your data is available online. This includes e-mail, contacts, calendar, to-do-list, Chrome tabs, documents, playlists and sport acvitity data. To ensure that this data is synchronised regularly, click on Accounts and next on Google in Settings. Set the switches for certain types of data for „active”. After you type in your Google account info, all data will be synchronised with the phone memory.
Additionally, you can synchronise your images, videos and other files with Google Cloud. Open the Images app and then choose Settings from the side menu. Click Back up my data. Set the switch for „active”. Scroll down and activate the Images and Videos option. Go back to the previous screen and activate Google Disc, too.
You can use the Google Cloud to store single files and folders To share them online, open the Discs application and click on the icon with a plus. Choose Send and select the resources. Files and images sent to the Cloud may be downloaded onto a new device by activating the Available Offline option which is located next to the selected resources. Google Sync

Google backup

The last piece of the Google Cloud is a tool designed for backing up which allows for recreating some system settings on the new device. These include calendar info, WI-FI networks, desktop wallpaper, Gmail configuration, display settings, keyboard configuration and the list of downloaded apps. Google can also transfer internal data of some applications but only versions 6.0 OS and up. No all app producers use this function. In order to activate the backup, choose Backup &reset in Settings. Click on Back up my data and set the switch for „active”. Select the Automatic Restore option. Thanks to this, all backed up data will be automatically dowloaded with the first configuration of the new device. You can browse and delete your backup (but not edit) on Google Disc in the Backup folder.  Backup & reset
