ESN is for the Electronic Serial Number, which is a unique identification code assigned by the specific manufacturer on a microchip in wireless phones. Every time a call is placed, this number is automatically transmitted to the base station. That is how the wireless carrier can check each call's validity. It is extremely helpful in fraud prevention. Moreover, this number is used for time attendance and registration tracking as well.
32-bit ESN has 8 bits that represent manufacturer code, 18 bits for a unique serial number and then 6 bits for all future applications.
Depending on your device, Electronic Serial Number can be found in up to three different places.
